Dr. Tom Mahon – Optometrist

Dr. Tom Mahon has long considered the Atlanta area home. Born on a U.S. Air Force base in Japan, he spent his early childhood in Charleston, South Carolina, and his formative years in Stone Mountain and the greater Atlanta area of Georgia. He completed his undergraduate studies in biology from LaGrange College after first year studies at Furman University, and went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University of the Health Sciences in Florida.

Dr. Mahon is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry and maintains a broad scope of clinical practice. His care includes primary eye care, medical management and co-management of ocular disease (including cataracts, glaucoma, retinal conditions, and minor ocular trauma and infections), as well as specialty and standard contact lens fitting, dry eye diagnosis and therapy, and comprehensive ocular surface management.

His practice also incorporates advanced treatment approaches, including modern dry eye therapies such as Tixel-based technology, along with myopia control strategies and ongoing management for progressive childhood myopia.

Early in his career, Dr. Mahon gained experience in both clinical care and practice development, including helping establish startup LensCrafters locations in Maryland and Georgia. He ultimately chose independent practice to focus on delivering highly personalized, relationship-driven eye care.

In 2003, he founded Mountain View Eye Associates with a vision of building a practice centered on clinical excellence, trust, and a consistently personal approach to patient care—principles that continue to define the practice today.

Dr. Mahon is known for a thorough, thoughtful approach to care and for taking the time to ensure patients feel heard, understood, and well cared for at every visit.

Outside the office, he enjoys time with family, outdoor activities, travel, home projects, reading, and exploring new restaurants.
